The New MarsHillChurch.org

As reported in our review of 2007-2008, God is using marshillchurch.org to reach a lot of people with the gospel. Here are the stats from July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2008:

  • Number of MHC sermon downloads = 4.7 million (400,000/month)
  • Number of visitors at marshillchurch.org = 1.35 million (112,000/month)
  • Number of pageviews at marshillchurch.org = 4 million (332,000/month)
  • Top countries visiting MHC online = US / UK / Canada / Australia / Germany / South Africa
The audience for online ministry is global, and when the number of lives affected reaches seven figures–and when you think about the influence each one of those people could have through cliques, communities, and generations–the potential impact is unfathomable, truly a work of God for which we cannot take credit. Because of this potential, we desire to excel on the web, making our content accessible, useful, and, most of all, free. Today marks the official debut of the latest version of marshillchurch.org. While the appearance hasn’t changed much, the functionality is well beyond anything we’ve offered before. nui-frontpage The new website represents almost eight months of work by our Technology team, and is a complete overhaul--from the ground up--of everything we do behind the scenes. With an all new presentation for our Mars Hill Media online, here are some of the other new features we are excited about.
  • Searching: The entire media collection is now searchable, with robust sorting, filtering, and tag-based cross-referencing. In short, it's easier than ever to find exactly what your looking for.
  • Browsing: You can now browse the media library by latest-added, sermon, teaching, and bands--then reverse-sorted by creation date, title, length, and filtered by location. The intense sorting and browsing feature sifts through thousands of pieces of content to bubble up material you did not even know you were looking for.
  • Stumbling: Alongside all content presentations are Related, Popular, and Latest Media, based on what your are watching. This allows you to stumble on content you may be interested in.
  • Downloading: Links to audio, video, DVD, documents, feeds, and any related content are all linked from the single media page. Sermon series content is now more accessible; we've provided RSS feeds so that users can grab an entire series as a single feed into iTunes or direct download.
  • DVD Downloads: DVD torrents are back; each piece of video media has a link to torrent the DVD file. New DVD files are being added regularly for old content (as available).
  • Sharing: All content can easily be forwarded to a friend, along with an option to invite them to a Mars Hill location and service time. We've also added both video and audio embed options and social bookmark links.
  • Music: The Technology team is still working to wrap this up, but any listing of band songs can be played. Search for a band and play the top song and all the songs on the page will be played through.
We offer these gifts to the public for absolutely free--as a reflection of the gift of grace we have received from Jesus--though they are not without cost. I am grateful for the many people who spent a lot time and energy on this project. I am also grateful for the people of Mars Hill Church (and others who support us) for funding the high price of technology-driven ministry. If you benefit from these resources and would like to participate in supporting our work, you may do so at our secure giving page. We pray these efforts will help to continue spreading the good news of Jesus Christ literally around the world. May Jesus use our website as a means to find people who weren’t even looking for him. May you use our website to share the gospel with friends, family, and co-workers. May people everywhere use our website to learn more about what it means to serve, love, and worship our good and mighty God. Amen. Questions or comments about the new site? Let us know here. UPDATE: The sermon series archives are still in the process of being transferred over to the new media library. From now until the end of September, they'll be added in the following order:
  1. The John Epistles
  2. 1 Timothy
  3. 2 Timothy
  4. Revelation
  5. Ecclesiastes
  6. Habakkuk
  7. Ephesians
