What Is Pastor Jamie Reading?

Pastor Jamie Munson is the lead pastor of Mars Hill Church. He was kind enough to answer some questions about his personal devotional time. We have more Q&A's with the pastors coming so stay tuned to the blog by subscribing to the RSS feed or joining us on Twitter and Facebook. What book of the Bible are you currently reading in your personal devotional time? What are you learning? I’m presently reading through the entire Bible using the chronological reading plan. It begins with Genesis, takes an excursus to Job, then back to Genesis, on to Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and so on. Among the first few books in the reading plan, a couple of things have really cut me to the core and stood out: Genesis: God uses our evil for good I am continually blown away at how God uses for good what man intends for evil. The story of Joseph makes this especially evident: he is sold by his brothers into slavery yet rises to a position of power and prominence that ultimately results in him extending grace to the same brothers that betrayed him. God is powerful enough (and good enough) to bend intended harm into a blessing. Exodus: God hears and remembers In Exodus I was struck by how actively God listens to the groaning of the Israelites. He doesn’t just listen—he hears and remembers his covenant to rescue them from their slavery. I too was a slave—a slave to my sin—yet God listened to my groaning, remembered his promise of salvation, and acted mercifully toward me in the sacrifice of his son Jesus Christ. Jesus’ life, death and resurrection put an end to my slavery. Upcoming, Operations Pastor Tim Beltz talks about how a trip to Greece and Israel has put his reading of the Minor Prophets in a whole new light.
