Mars Hill Church's Preaching and Theology Pastor, Mark Driscoll, just made Preaching Magazine's list of the
"25 Most Influential Preachers of the Last 25 Years".
Pastor Mark came in at
#17 and is the youngest preacher on the list by over a decade.
Here is what Preaching had to say.
Not only did Driscoll pastor Mars Hill as it grew from zero to megachurch in America's most unchurched city in less than a decade but he also has launched a national network of church planters that is touching cities across the nation [Acts 29]. Reformed, emerging and controversial, Driscoll is a model for thousands of young pastors who read his books and listen faithfully to his podcast sermons. Driscoll may well be an example of how preachers will influence other preachers in the 21st century.
He is in the company of Billy Graham (#1), Rick Warren (#3), John Stott (#9), John Piper (#11), and Tim Keller (#25).
Coincidentally, this comes the same week that the
Mars Hill Church podcast hit #1 again in iTunes' Religion & Spirituality category.
How can a young preacher ignore the experts and preach hour-long, expositional sermons through books of the Bible and series that last multiple years? Pastor Mark put it simply,
"preach Jesus".
Preach Jesus.
Jesus’ name should be spoken repeatedly throughout a sermon so that it is clear which God you are speaking of. Jesus should be the hero of every sermon, the answer to every question, and the hope for every person. Jesus promised that if He is lifted up He would draw people and the key to church growth is the exaltation of Jesus. [via The Resurgence]
