Why are you here?
If you’re not a Christian, I believe God led you to Mars Hill Church in order to meet Jesus. If you already know Jesus—if you’re already a Christian—you’re here to work.
Jesus saves people from death to life, condemnation to salvation, enemies to friends, sin to righteousness. We work not to earn God’s favor but because we can’t earn God’s favor—he gives grace freely. We work in response to God’s goodness.
"Whatever you do," Paul writes to the early Christians, "work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ" (Col. 3:24).
MISSION
We’ve got work to do, Mars Hill. We’ve got a mission. Jesus left his disciples with two big assignments: go and make disciples of all nations, and be my witnesses in your city, in your region, and "to the end of the earth" (Mt. 28:19; Acts 1:8). In this way, God defines our mission: make disciples and plant churches for his glory. The work is joyful, because we get to see God change people’s lives—including our own.

STEWARDSHIP
God has not only given us work, he’s also given us the tools for the job: time, talent, and treasure. Our spending habits, our hobbies, our aspirations, and our lives indicate whether we’re for God’s glory or our own. This is where the work gets real practical. If you’re a part of the church, you’re a part of a body. Give generously, serve with your talents, take time to pray with people and extend mercy so that the body is healthy and can run forward with the gospel.
CONNECT
Throughout the Bible God addresses his people as a group, a body, a bride, united as one. God’s work is for the church—not individuals. We need one another to remember grace, to practice patience and forgiveness, and to accomplish our mission. At Mars Hill this means joining a community group and becoming a member.
PRAY
Though we get to be a part of it, the work is ultimately God’s. He changes hearts. He redeems evil. He gives life. We can’t do anything without him, but he can do anything. Pray for your church, your pastors, and your community group. Ask God to change lives in your city.
Over the next few weeks we’ll be emphasizing these themes as a church in order to focus on the work at hand. Be encouraged because it’s actually happening! Our Bible preaching is going around the world, new churches are starting, men are learning to love their families, and every single week more people meet Jesus.
You’re here. Be a part of this.
