Yesterday,
Pastor Samuel walked us through a look at biblical manhood from the Asian-American perspective by comparing and contrasting Christ and Confucius. As a follow-up, here are some key questions from him that are particular to Christians with Asian heritage or family backgrounds:
- What does it look like to find your identity in Christ or yourself under the Lamb of God?
- Do you believe and live the gospel of Jesus Christ?
- How does this affect how you approach the concept of "saving face"?
- What do you focus on more often: what other people think of you, or what God thinks of you in Christ?
- How does the message of the cross affect a heritage and culture of fear of man and shame?
- When do you feel held back by men’s approval, and when are you able to act boldly in faith and confidence in Jesus?
- How would the view of Christ as your righteousness or "spiritual correctness" change the Confucian understanding of righteousness, which functionally equates with "social correctness" and "political correctness"?
- Do you readily receive and accept your forgiveness of sins and right standing before God or do you try hard to prove yourself to both God and men?
- What motivates you to be kind, loyal, and obedient in and outside of your community, beginning with your family?
- Do you feel entitled to receive or required to show kindness, loyalty, and obedience or do you experience joy in being kind, loyal, and obedient to others in Christ?
