ReTrain 2010: 100 students. 50 churches. 7 countries. 1 mission.

Mars Hill welcomes 112 students this week to kick off year two of the Resurgence Training Center. I went through last year’s program; it was a great experience and I’m excited for what’s in store for the new class. Here are some initial reactions from one student (David from the UK) who will be serving at our West Seattle campus during his ReTrain year: The mission of the school is to make disciples and plant churches by equipping leaders. "This group of students represents thousands of people who will be influenced by ReTrain," says Pastor Justin Holcomb, who leads the program.

The Students

Here’s the demographic breakdown of this year’s class:
  • 39 come from Mars Hill
  • 11 come from other Acts 29 churches
  • 62 come from other churches
  • 9 international students representing Australia, the Ukraine, the UK, South Africa, Germany, and Canada
  • 19 students will serve as interns at a Mars Hill campus as part of their studies
It will be a rigorous 10 months of study and ministry experience for these men. Upon completion of their studies, they’ll be sent out—within Mars Hill, to Acts 29, or elsewhere—to lead churches, campuses, and community groups with the message of the cross, the grace of Jesus.

The Instructors

The ReTrain program combines academic instruction, collaborative cohorts (small groups based on area of ministry interest), and hands-on experience. Every one of Mars HIll Church’s executive elders will be teaching at some point (including me), and the cohort leaders are Mars Hill pastors and (2) Acts 29 pastors. The professors for this year are: Many of these men will give up much of their time and travel a long way to teach at ReTrain, and we're extremely thankful for their gracious participation for the sake of the gospel.

The Resurgence

The Resurgence Training Center is led by the same team behind the conferences, media, and blogs found at TheResurgence.com—the most highly trafficked Christian leadership blog on the web. "Our team is privileged," says Pastor Justin, "to serve these 100+ men as they seek to grow deeper in knowledge and experience of God and his grace to sinners." As the year begins, please pray that their studies would bear much fruit for Jesus and his kingdom.
