Changed by Jesus: Loving God First in Scotland
There are stories of people whose lives are changed by Jesus Christ every day, all over the country and the globe. Sometimes that happens through the ministries of Mars Hill, and sometimes those people send us their stories, testimonies that humble and bless us. Here's one of them:
I live in East Kilbride in Scotland. I was brought up Roman Catholic and went to mass weekly but it was a formality that was part of my upbringing, and I never thought any more of it than that. Then I met my future husband, Mark, and we realized very quickly that we wanted to get married and have children.
We couldn't marry in the Catholic Church since Mark was divorced, so went to the Church of Scotland and were married in 2005. We were still in the very early stages of our journey with Christ when we attended Calderwood Baptist Church for a joint service and were blown away by God's presence and the Holy Spirit within the congregation here.
We were baptized together on June 24, 2007 and we have grown slowly but surely in our relationships with Jesus with God's grace and mercy. We are now members at CBC … and we have three daughters: four-year-old twin girls, Sophie and Sara, and a two-year-old named Olivia.
My relationship with Mark has always been a volatile one, since he is 11 years older than me and we have different tastes in most things. There is also tension between Mark and my family. We love one another dearly, but if it weren't for the love of God then we would have thrown the towel in long ago.
Through God’s grace and with our Lord Jesus in our hearts, we have learned to apologize and to repent, foremost to God but then to one another. Early in our married life, we were both very stubborn and a simple statement from one to another could escalate quickly into a full-blown argument that would then go on for days or weeks.
Through prayer and commitment to God we have found a new commitment to one another. We are now quick to apologize and admit when we are in the wrong, and we are quick to forgive each other.
I continue to pray that my relationship with my husband will reflect the one I have with Christ as He is the center and focus in our lives now, not ourselves or even each other. I love my husband but I can say honestly that I love God first, and I know Mark has his priorities correct in loving God before me.
