Last Sunday the Ballard Worship Team (jokingly named Praise Canon) had the chance to introduce a new song called "This is War." I wanted to share with you a little bit of the mindset we had when deciding to play it. In our new Isaiah sermon series, A Son Given, we're unpacking the passage of Isaiah 9:1-7 where we see a Jesus who doesn't look a whole lot like the Jesus of your average Christmas song. This Jesus is the King of kings and Lord of lords – one who has declared war on sin and death, and one who will one day reign triumphantly. It's jolting to see this God love us enough to humble himself and come as a helpless baby. All we can do is respond to him, singing "Hallelujah, a child is born. This is the rescue we've waited for!" I pray this song blesses you as it has me. "This Is War" was written by long-time Mars Hill friend, Dustin Kensrue, from Thrice. In this video he explains some thoughts behind the song and the unique quality of Christmas music. You can download the chord chart to "This Is War" here. Joel Brown is the Ballard worship pastor.
