5 Mother's Day Sermons from the Campuses

This past Sunday, the pastors were in the pulpits while Pastor Mark was coming back from the UK. Here’s a sampling of some the sermons preached at the nine campuses:

Pastor Tim Gaydos: “Biblical Womanhood in the City”

Genesis 1–3 | Downtown Seattle campus

Pastor Tim introduced his mother, Lois, as “the woman who probably has prayed more for me than anybody in my life, who has been an encourager, a mentor, one of the most influential people in my life.” This is a day of sadness and heartache, and it can be a difficult and sad day. Don’t miss his pointed word for the single guys:

“I see boys coming in here with ulterior motives. Seriously. They have one thing on their mind, and it’s not to treat our daughters of God with love and respect. And I’ve got three words for you: There’s the door.”

Pastor Jamie Munson: “Boasting in Jesus”

1 Corinthians 1:18–31 | at the Bellevue campus

Pastor Jamie Munson preached to the Bellevue campus on how Jesus has rescued, saved, and called us for his glory. Because of Jesus’ great love, our only boast can be in him.

Pastor Dave Bruskas: “Perfect Love Casts Out Fear”

1 John 4:18 | Albuquerque campus

Pastor Dave Bruskas preaches on how God’s love takes away our fear from 1 John 4:18.

Pastor Samuel Choi: “The First Mother’s Day”

Genesis 3:20 | Federal Way

How do we celebrate Mother’s Day when its founder boycotted the Mother’s Day because of its commercialization?

When every holiday seems to be hijacked by the corporate greed and individual gratification, we go back to the Bible to trace the beginning of “motherhood” and learn how we can redeem Mother’s Day by truly celebrating the gift of life, family, and the hope of salvation in the offspring of the woman, Jesus Christ.

Pastor Steve Tompkins: “Is Anyone Thirsty?”

John 7:37–39 | Shoreline

[audio:http://cdn.marshillchurch.org/files/2011/05/08/20110508_is-anyone-thirsty_sd_audio.mp3]

Pastor Steve explains from this pivotal passage how Jesus points his listeners to himself as the ultimate satisfaction and fulfillment of their desires, through the thirst-quenching power of the Holy Spirit.

Ballard was one of several campuses that also held baby dedications this past Sunday. We are incredibly blessed as a church with these little sons and daughters:

While Pastor Mark covers about three-quarters of the sermons during the calendar year, the other quarter of the time, a fleet of pastors (including campus pastors and other elders) preach from the pulpits at our nine campuses.
