What's a Christian's Relationship with Culture?
What does it mean to understand culture through the lens of the gospel? Join us this Saturday, October 29, to hear Dr. Glenn Lucke speak at our Mars Hill Olympia church.
From Lucke:
Christians must not contend for souls and culture in a Nietzschean way. We know the gates of Hell will not prevail against the Church, but we don’t know what the Church will look like vis-à-vis culture when Christ returns. The question for us is, will he find us faithful?
Cultural dominance is not a factor in the New Testament, but faithfulness is. If our faithfulness and God's sovereign working results in cultural influence or even dominance, as at other periods in Western history, so be it. But if our faithfulness and his sovereign upholding of the world results in our being a remnant of martyrs, so be it. His kingdom is not of this world and while we are to pray and work to extend his kingdom in this world, this is not our home.

Lucke graduated from Dartmouth College and served as a campus minister at Harvard before working on the staff of a large church in Houston. He earned his M.Div at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando and his Ph.D. at the University of Virginia. He co-authored
Common Grounds: Conversations About Things That Matter Most (2003) and is the creator of
Docent Research Group, which provides customized research for pastors, churches, and parachurch organizations, and recently wrote, "
A letter about 9/11, Good, Evil and God," for The Resurgence. So join us this Saturday, October 29 at Mars Hill Olympia for the Mars Hill Seminar "Understanding Culture."
