Adoption: The Gospel in Action

This past spring, my wife, Rachel, and I felt God placed on our hearts the desire to adopt a child.

Often, when people hear that we are adopting I’m asked, “What country are you adopting from?” When I reply, “America,” people look at me a little perplexed.

I’ve found that many people tend to think about orphans in other countries, and not realize that we have an orphan issue of our own. In Washington State, there are currently 8,000 children in the foster care system, and just over 1,500 children are legally free and ready to be adopted.

Orphan care is an issue that the church needs to own (James 1:27). It’s about choosing life, caring for, and valuing children, while living out the gospel through redemptive relationships. In addition, this is a proactive way to break the cycle of homeless youth who “time out of the system” or are swept into sex trafficking.

As Christians, we are all adopted by God (Ephesians 1:5). We want to extend an invitation to you to hear about how people at Mars Hill can make a difference in the lives of orphans tomorrow, today, February 11 at Mars Hill Downtown Seattle from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Paul Freed is a deacon at the Downtown Seattle church.

It's All About Jesus

Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think on that for a minute. If that were true, how would it change the way you thought, felt, and lived this life?

At Mars Hill, we believe that Jesus is God. We take him at his word. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. We invite you to learn more about this man who is God and how you can find forgiveness and new life in him.

What to Expect

Visiting a church for the first time can be nerve-racking. But having an idea of what to expect can help. There are three main parts to every Sunday service: preaching, worship, and kids. To learn more about each of these, click the links below.

We value community

Church is more than a service. It’s people living life together and helping one another throughout our cities to serve our cities. Each week, thousands of people at Mars Hill meet in hundreds of small communities to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh, and live. We call these Community Groups—and they’re the heart of our church.
