Go
After atoning for the sins of the world and rising from the grave conquering sin and death, Jesus said to his disciples “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matt. 28:18–19). He told them to start in Jerusalem and work from there to the ends of the earth. This call to make disciples includes the people of Tacoma, Washington.
See
There are about 200,000 people who live in Tacoma proper and hundreds of thousands more in the surrounding area. Statistically, most of these people have never heard the good news of Jesus and have no religious affiliations whatsoever. This means that hundreds of thousands of people in the Tacoma area live in spiritual darkness and are in desperate need of redemption—and they don’t even know it.
Feel
As Jesus looks at Tacoma and the surrounding area, he sees the brokenness and he sees the need. He is not indifferent but rather cares deeply for people. Jesus loves people and wants to see them freed from sin. God’s heart for Tacoma is displayed at the cross where, in mercy, Jesus sacrificed himself to redeem, heal, and bless Tacoma. As Christians, we testify that God saves sinners like us and his grace is amazing. Our heart is for all the people of Tacoma.
Do
Our plan is to open Mars Hill Tacoma in the fall of 2013. Mars Hill Tacoma is and will be all about Jesus. Our hope is to see thousands of people come to faith in Jesus in the years ahead. Our vision and prayers are that Mars Hill Tacoma will be a church-planting church and our anchor church for South Puget Sound. As part of the Tacoma community, we seek to love, serve, and be a blessing to our city.
Currently, we have a few hundred people meeting in Community Groups throughout the Tacoma area. If you are interested in being part of launching Mars Hill Tacoma, please join one of our Community Groups. (Note: our groups are currently organized through the Federal Way church.)
