We received a letter recently from a missionary serving in China. This is his story.
John and his wife, Elaine*, serve in China, helping to train new church planters and translate theological documents for the underground church there. New believers who want to teach have no access to biblical teaching of any kind since Christianity is illegal in the Communist country. The vast majority of Christians in China don’t have access to a Bible. Some of the only training available legally comes from the government-sponsored church where teachings such as the exclusivity of Jesus, salvation through grace, and other key doctrines are restricted.
John’s letter to our church opened by saying this, “Your ministry has been an answer to prayer on the other side of the world.” He went on to explain that he and his wife listen to Pastor Mark’s podcasts for an hour a day, five days a week and have been blessed immensely by Mars Hill’s teachings and ministries. He went on to say, “We believe that your ministry is exactly what is needed in China at this time.” Even on the other side of the world, God is using the free sermon podcasts we make available in powerful ways to help his gospel shine forth.
You can pray for John and Elaine as they continue to labor faithfully to raise up steadfast, Bible-preaching Christians in difficult soil. Please pray for protection, endurance, and that the Lord can continue to use them in powerful ways.
