Event Coordinator
Mars Hill Church’s mission is to plant churches and make disciples. Mars Hill Church has grown from a Bible study to over 14,000 weekly attenders at 14 different churches in 4 states, Washington, Oregon, New Mexico, and California. Due to our continued growth we are looking for someone who has experience managing events and has been successful. This candidate must love Jesus and be motivated to see leaders trained so that churches can be planted and disciples made. This position will report to the Event Manager and will involve frequent travel. Additionally you must be willing to live in the Seattle area.
What we need in you:
You are a visionary who likes to focus on creating and improving existing systems, increasing efficiency and building a strong team. You are a goal setter who plans well through implementation and influence. You would excel in implementing large conferences and events of 500+ attendees, 100 volunteers and multiple vendor contacts with proven confidence. You would report to the Event Manager.
Qualifications:
- Fulfill the duties required of Mars Hill Church members as outlined in the membership covenant.
- Fulfill the character qualifications of a deacon as taught in the Scriptures.
- Experience and proven excellence and success managing events.
- Discretion, perseverance, patience, and a sense of humor.
- Professional-level skills and experience in people, business, project, and office management.
- Flexibility and ability to anticipate and enjoy a rapidly changing environment with frequent adjustment of job roles.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments with a variety of staff and volunteers.
- Excellent interpersonal skills both in person and by phone with a high degree of professionalism.
- Ability to accomplish projects with minimal supervision and demonstrated ability to work as a viable part of a team.
- Ability to learn and utilize cutting edge technology.
If you were working for us, some of the things you would have done for us last week:
- Completed a proposal for the Executive Elders capturing all important elements of an upcoming event.
- Finalized an executive summary of a bus tour taking place next Spring and presented it to the Resurgence Board—you knew all of the details so was able to anticipate and answer the Board’s questions.
- Submitted requests to the Media and Communication Department to develop branding for an event.
- Input and updated project management software to ensure event deadlines were made.
- Called 5 bus companies to compare pricing on renting buses for a series of events next fall—you would have written down all of the information and made a recommendation for which company to use.
- Recruited and trained 5 volunteers to assist in the event department
- Negotiated group rates with a hotel near an event venue and got them to agree to a great percentage.
- Developed a robust planning system for events including checklists, contacts, best practices, etc.
- Communicated with multiple departments about event expectations and needs.
- Planned and implemented a mid-week church event of 400 + attendees to capture a sermon.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, some weekends and evening depending on event and needs
Hours: 40-45 hours per week
Location: Central Offices - Seattle, WA (Ballard)
Vacation: Two weeks floating vacation plus one week at Christmas
