WORSHIP PASTOR

Mars Hill Church’s mission is to plant churches and make disciples. We have grown from a small Bible study to over 12,000 weekly attenders at 14 different churches in 4 states: Washington, Oregon, New Mexico, and California. We are humbled and excited by the work we have seen him do over the past few years. As Mars Hill churches continue to be planted there is a need for worship pastors to lead and oversee the music and production for each local Mars Hill church.

ROLE SUMMARY

The worship pastor reports to the executive pastor of the local Mars Hill church and is responsible to lead the congregation in worship. This role will serve to help build the identity of the individual church and Mars Hill Church as a whole. The worship pastor is responsible for training and shepherding bands at the local church and overseeing the worship portion of services, including musical selection and arrangements. Additionally this position is responsible for the visual and musical aspects of the church service and oversees the key components for the overall feel, aesthetics, and health of the church. Mars Hill’s central worship director collaborates with the worships pastors to ensure consistent quality and theology across all of our locations.

  • Fulfill the duties required of Mars Hill Church members as outlined in the membership covenant.
  • Fulfill the character qualifications of an elder as taught in the Scriptures.
  • Philosophical alignment with church leadership.
  • Passionate about casting vision and developing leaders.
  • Demonstrated musical skill and theological discernment. 
  • Proven track record in ministry and biblical discipleship of others at a deacon or elder level.
  • Strength in leadership for the church and bands.
  • Possess pastoral influence, verbal communication skills, and cultural awareness.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • A strong gift for leadership and a proven track record of developing leaders of leaders.
  • Love for Jesus and a desire to see lives and communities changed by the gospel.
  • Entrepreneurial aptitude.
  • Proven success at multi-tasking, time management, and prioritizing.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality and trust regarding leader and member information.
  • Proven ability to work with and maintain positive, loyal relationships with those inside and outside the church.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee leading worship for weekend and midweek services (includes leading worship 2–3 times per month and band development in collaboration with the Mars Hill worship director).
  • Oversee all areas of production (audio, light, service management).
  • Build bands within the church and train band leaders in collaboration with the Mars Hill worship director.
  • Shepherd staff and volunteers serving with bands and production teams.
  • Select songs and arrangements for weekend and midweek services.
  • Weekly service planning.
  • Attend weekly meetings with local leadership team.
  • Collaborate with other leaders to carry out the overall vision of corporate worship at the local church.
  • Lead worship for special events (Good Friday, Advent, weekday events, etc.).
  • Recruit, train, organize, and shepherd music and production volunteers.
  • Participate in songwriting, arranging, and recording.
  • Participate in local and regional missions.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, plus Sunday responsibilities
Hours: 40-50 hours per week
Vacation: Four weeks floating vacation plus one week at Christmas
