Hope from Omega to Alpha

God is everlasting. He’s what the Energizer Bunny purports to be, and he doesn’t change; his character and attributes are the only constant as he’s the same yesterday today and forever.

As this year ends, another begins, it reminds us of our mortality… for some of us, it makes us wonder where we’re headed, personally and corporately… some of us are riding high on “change we can believe in”, while others are paralyzed with fear over economic recession. As we cross the threshold of 2009, it’s important not just to remember where our hope should be, but what true hope really IS.

The world has a deluded, diluted version of hope that holds no water and quenches no thirst. Hope is not desiring something will happen. Hope is not wishing something will happen. Hope is not banking on an investment. Christian hope is something truly other, and it’s important as Christians we know what that is, using our words and terms rightly so we don’t feed the world’s understanding of hope and so diminish God in our own minds and degrade the gospel in the minds of others.
