What does it mean to be a disciple?
Matthew 28:16-20
What does it mean to be a disciple? Has the word lost its meaning on us since we say it so often? Do we spend time thinking on it deeply and understanding it practically?
From pastor Bill Clem’s upcoming book Disciple we learn that disciple means getting your identity from Jesus. But what does disciple of Jesus look like? We consider the topic of disciple from a well known passage, Matthew 28:16-20, a section known as the Great Commission. We see a description of the Eleven disciples and some of whom doubted Jesus. We must face the doubts in our own context and behold Jesus who came to be with us in disciple making mission.
Matthew 28:16-20
16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
